Girne (Kyrenia)

Situated on the north coast of the island, Girne's natural beauty makes it a showcase for North Cyprus. It is a peaceful, restful place, ideal for escaping the hustle and bustle of life. One of the town's most interesting historical monuments is Girne Castle which was built in the Byzantine period. Lusignan and Venetian additions strengthened its defensive power and they still stand to this day. Beside the Castle is a marina, and all along the harbour can be found open-air restaurants, bars etc., which offer Turkish cuisine and other dishes.
